Cancellation Policy

If you cancel with less than seven days’ notice, you can expect to be charged. We will attempt to fill the cancelled appointment, if possible, so please give us as much notice as possible. Also, you will not be cancelled if you reschedule your appointment to an earlier available time. A final decision about charging for a late canceled appointment is made by the clinician at your next in person visit.

Thoughts About Cancellations

We are often happy to meet by video conference instead of an in person visit if that will help.

We try to be reasonable about emergencies but if you have had more than one late cancellation we will likely charge you for the missed appointment even if it is an emergency. Some people have many late cancellations and others have none. It does not seem fair to increase the rates for everyone to make up for those who have many late cancellations.

Your flexibility finding a new appointment time is one of the many factors that go into a final decision about charging or not for the appointment.

We often spend the time of the cancelled appointment reviewing records, researching treatment options, and doing other clinical work on your behalf.

Although we will usually charge for a late cancelled appointment, the final decision is made when you next meet with your clinician in person. We do not make that decision by email as it involves weighing many factors, only some of which we have outlined here.
